Biography.

Arthur Hornig, performs as soloist with orchestras such as the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Staatstheater Gießen, and the Western Bohemian Symphonie Orchestra Marienbad. As chamber musician as well as pedagogue, he is invited to renowned festivals in Asia, South America and whole Europe.


Since 2011, he is the 1st Principal Cellist of the orchestra of the "Deutsche Oper" Berlin under maestro Donald Runnicles. 

Since 2018 he is appointed Principal Cellist of the orchestra of the Bayreuth Wagner festival under Christian Thielemann. 


Furthermore, he was guest professor at the TOHO University Tokyo and also member of the annual Cello Festival “Ouro Branco”, Brazil.


Born in 1987, he received his first cello lessons at the age of 5 with Professor Eldar Issakadse. From 2006 on, he studied with Professor Michael Sanderling at the Academy for Music and Art in Frankfurt/ Main and received his soloist diploma with the highest degree.


Already in early age Arthur Hornig participated in the famous national German competition “Jugend Musiziert“ several times and won each time first prizes. He received a special prize at the international cello competition “Antonio Janigro“ in Porec / Croatia. In 2010, Arthur was finalist of the “Deutsche Musikwettbewerb“ international competition. 

Since 2009, he received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation. Also, he was supported by the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation for many years.


With different chamber music groups, Arthur Hornig won several prizes at competitions such as the “European chamber music competition“ Karlsruhe. For more than a decade he regularly performed with “Trio NeuKlang“, playing classical repertoire, contemporary music, and crossover programs. In 2016, he won the ECHO Klassik award with his “Berolina Ensemble”.
